FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - VIRTUAL 5K

What is a Virtual 5K?

A Virtual 5K is a race that can be run or walked at any location at any time.

Can I register as an individual?

Yes, the race welcomes both corporate teams, running groups, and individual runners. You can register HERE.

As a Corporate Team Captain, am I automatically registered for the race?

No. Team Captains must register themselves under their Corporate Team if they plan to participate.

Does the race follow a specific course?

All races listed on our website are professionally measured according to the most accurate method approved by the national and international running governing bodies. You can choose any of the courses listed on our website or make up your own.

Do I have to run or walk on one of the certified 5K courses on the event website?

No. You can run or walk anywhere as long as it's a 5K. You can even run or walk on your treadmill.

Are the Verizon Virtual courses all USATF certified?

No, but they are professionally measured using the same measurement process. Our measurers have over 30 years of experience. In fact, they are the official measurers/certifiers of the NYC and Philadelphia Marathons. USATF certification is reserved for competitive races where everyone runs the same course. Due to Covid 19 safety measures, this is not possible in 2020.

How do I get a course created close to my workplace?

Any company captain or running/fitness group captain who recruits 30 or more participants to join their team will become eligible for consideration to have their own professionally measured Verizon Virtual 5K course designed and measured at or near a location of their choice (Note: vehicle traffic and social distancing restrictions may apply). If you succeed in recruiting a team of 30 or more entries, contact us for details at Info@VerizonCorporateClassic.com.

How long do I have to complete the 5K?

You can complete your virtual 5K on any day starting August 6 and ending on September 17 by 5 pm.

Can I walk or jog the race if I am not competitive?

Certainly! Anyone who is physically able to complete a 5K (3.1 miles) is encouraged to register.

Can I bike the 5K?

No. All participants must run or walk unaided by any vehicles.

Do I have to complete the 5K (3.1 miles) all at once?

Yes, you must complete the 5K at once. You may run as many 5K legs as you would like to get your best time.

All who enter will have a 6-week time window (from Aug. 6 to Sept. 17) to complete their 5K run or walk on one of the Verizon Virtual courses of their choice. Social distancing will be a requirement.  No running in groups, except for families who have been living together through the pandemic.  Running with masks will be optional.

How do I submit my 5K time?

You can keep track of your miles and time using any fitness app - Strava, MapMyRun, Apple Watch, Fitbit, etc. Or, if you use one of our Verizon Virtual courses, you only need to time yourself from Start to Finish.

Please visit the Results Page and follow the instructions to submit your 5K time.

I want to change my submitted time, how can I do that?

Only 1 time may be submitted per registrant. You are welcome to run as many 5Ks as you like and submit your best time by September 17 at 5pm.

What award categories are offered?

The 2020 Virtual Verizon Corporate Classic will not have award categories.

How do I get my Verizon Virtual race bib?

Your Verizon Virtual race bib will be shipped with your commemorative event t-shirt.

We encourage you to send us a photo of you running with it. You might be featured on our social media pages!

Are Race Bibs transferable?

No, race bibs may not be transferred to another runner, even in the event that the registered runner cannot participate.

All registrants must agree to the waiver of participation.

How long is registration open?

Registration is open from July 16 to September 17 at 5PM. You can register HERE.

What does my registration fee cover?

Entry fees cover the operational costs of organizing the event, race t-shirt, race bib, and a per-participant donation to the charity beneficiary, JBWS.

How do I get my participant amenities (Race shirt and runner number)?

Commemorative event t-shirt and bib are shipped directly to the participant. In some cases, company team t-shirts and bibs may be shipped to your company captains for distribution to team members.

When will my amenities be shipped?
Amenities will be shipped beginning September 1.

Is any portion of my entry fee tax deductible?

No. Entry fees are paid to the event production company, not directly to the charity beneficiary. It is the event production company, not the individual participant, which makes the donation to the charity beneficiary. However, all participants and participating companies will have the opportunity to make additional donations to JBWS. Such donations may be tax deductible. Please check with your financial advisor/accountant for confirmation.

Are there refunds on registration?

The race does not issue refunds. No exceptions.

Is there an event beneficiary?

Yes, the Verizon Corporate Classic benefits JBWS.
